(ANIMAL DEMOCRACY)

Dutch vocational college education includes a course on citizenship, where students learn about their role in society and confront societally sensitive issues. However, given the diversity present in Dutch classrooms, many instructors find it difficult to start discussions with their students about these issues. Diermocratie, an in-classroom game aimed at encouraging more open conversation, was designed and developed to help teachers initiate such tough conversations. By role-playing metaphors that parallel real-world events, students explore their own predispositions, are made aware of the perspectives of others, and are enabled to discuss issues objectively.
